Dance Flick - Pics and bio of Keenen Ivory Wayans
From the Wayans Brothers - The Funniest Dance Movie of All Time
Keenen Ivory Wayans (Written by, Producer) is an entertainment renaissance man who has built a Hollywood empire as a director, creator, actor and writer.
A graduate of the Tuskegee Institute, Wayans entered the comic arena in the mid-1980s by stepping up to the mic and honing his stand-up act. He later branched out into movies by scripting the satire "Hollywood Shuffle" and the aptly-titled comedy vehicle "Eddie Murphy Raw," both in 1987.
Wayans broke through to a larger audience with "I'm Gonna Git You Sucka" (1988), a rollicking 1970s parody that he directed, produced and starred in as Jack Spade, a war vet who goes home to fight street crime.
In 1990, Wayans created, produced and starred in the iconic, Emmy Award-winning FOX TV comedy-variety series "In Living Color," which ran from 1990-1994. The series helped launch the fledgling network, as well as FX, and has been in syndication since its inception. It also reinvigorated BET and made Wayans a household name synonymous with comedy.
Following "In Living Color," Wayans starred in several films, including the box office hit "A Low Down Dirty Shame," which he wrote and directed. He also produced the 1996 comedy "Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood" starring his brothers Shawn and Marlon Wayans.
In 2000, Wayans wrote and directed the box office smash "Scary Movie," which grossed $277 million worldwide. A parody of slasher movies, it comically referenced several films across a variety of genres, even spoofing "The Usual Suspects." "Scary Movie’s" monumental success spawned three box office sequels.
In 2004, Wayans wrote and directed the hit comedy "White Chicks," about two black FBI agents, Marcus and Kevin (played respectively by his brothers Marlon and Shawn), who disguise themselves as white socialites to foil a kidnapping plot. The three brothers re-teamed (as producers and screenwriters, with Keenen directing) for the 2006 comedy "Little Man."
Currently, the Wayans brothers are preparing a feature for Paramount Pictures in which Shawn and Marlon will star. Wayans is also writing and producing a sitcom for CBS and developing a lifestyle show with Planet Green, in which he will appear.
